Term 2- Lights, Camera, Action!

This term we will be continuing with our focus of ‘Lights, Camera, Action’. This will involve us thinking about our performance skills which we will put into practise during the Christmas production!

This term we are continuing to learn our phase 2 sounds our pre-cursive formation. We will also focus on hearing the initial sounds, working towards segmenting the sounds into simple words and blending them together. We will practise writing simple words and sentences using our phonetic knowledge and understanding.

Numeracy, Number and Shape Space and Measure

Our focus in Maths will include counting irregular arrangements of up to ten objects, using the language of ‘more’, ‘fewer’ or ‘less’ when comparing two sets of objects, and saying the number that  is one more than a given number. In addition to this we shall be looking at ordering two or three items by length or height and ordering two items by weight or capacity. Maths concepts including capacity, weight, and length will be a continuous focus within our outdoor environment, such as our mud kitchen and sand pit.

Expressive Art and Design

Children will be using their creativity and imagination within their Remembrance art work, learning new songs for Christmas and creating pictures using natural materials.

We will be exploring tapping simple rhythms, investigating how sounds can be changed, as well as exploring colour and how these can be changed. Children will be developing their imagination through role play of their own first hand experiences, in addition to our Christmas story.

Understanding The World

The children will explore the effects upon ice from heat and salt. We also be caring for our class Christmas plants (Ponsetta). Whilst caring for our plants, the children will develop of understanding of growth and decay. Children will be talking about different occupations of interest to them and about what makes them unique. We will also share about our family traditions including Christmas. We will be exploring different examples of technology.

 Week 3

EYFS Curriculum

In Aardman class we follow the curriculum for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS),

which is divided into the prime areas of learning:

• communication and language

• physical development

• personal, social and emotional development

and the specific areas of learning:

• literacy

• mathematics

• understanding the world

• expressive arts and design

For each area, the level of progress children are expected to have attained by the end of the Early Years Foundation Stage is defined by the Early Learning Goals. These goals state what it is expected that children will know and be able to do by the end of the reception year of their education.

The ‘Development Matters’ guidance sets out the likely stages of progress a child makes along their learning journey towards the early learning goals.

We will give your child the opportunity to make progress within all these areas of learning, by ensuring that they have access to a wide variety of opportunities both indoor and outside that address the different areas.  Sometimes they will work with an adult in a small group, to do a particular task, and other times we provide a selection of resources, and children are able to choose how they will use them.
